A Whittlesey man has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison after launching a terrifying assault on his former partner at her home.
Kevin Oliver, aged 36, forced his way into the woman’s residence in Whittlesey shortly after midnight on April 20. Upon entering, he began accusing her of communicating with another man.
The situation quickly escalated as Oliver made death threats, telling the victim he would burn her alive. He demanded she surrender her mobile phone to him.
Fearing for her safety, the woman attempted to flee toward the rear of the property, but Oliver intercepted her and violently threw her to the ground.
When she made a second attempt to escape through the front entrance, Oliver blocked her path once more. This time, he had armed himself with a hammer taken from the kitchen area.
Oliver then forced the victim against the staircase, pinned her down, and threatened to “smash her head in” unless she handed over her phone.
In a state of extreme fear, the woman complied with his demand just moments before police officers arrived at the scene and placed Oliver under arrest.
Oliver, a resident of Coronation Avenue in Whittlesey, appeared at Huntingdon Law Courts on Thursday, September 25. He entered a guilty plea to charges of actual bodily harm. The court sentenced him to 33 months imprisonment, which also included the activation of a previous suspended sentence.
Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order against Oliver to protect the victim.
DC Lydia Halliday, the investigating officer on the case, condemned Oliver’s actions. “This was a despicable attack by Oliver which left the victim absolutely terrified so it’s great he’s been brought to justice.” she said.
