South Cambridgeshire residents are being asked to help decide what matters most for their community as the District Council launches a new public consultation on its priorities for 2026/27.
The six-week consultation, which opened on Monday 6 October, invites residents and local businesses to give feedback on how the Council should deliver its goals over the next year. The initiative follows the adoption of the Corporate Plan 2025–2030, which sets out a long-term vision for a fairer, kinder, and greener South Cambridgeshire.
The Council’s plan focuses on five key priorities that guide its work across the district:
- Healthy and supported communities – Engaging with communities to help everyone live freely and independently, recognising diversity as a district-wide strength.
- Sustainable homes and vibrant places – Tackling the housing crisis by supporting the delivery of sustainable, affordable homes and stronger communities.
- Being green to our core – Putting climate and ecological action at the heart of all Council activities to prepare for future environmental challenges.
- Helping businesses to thrive – Supporting local enterprise to create jobs and opportunities, strengthening South Cambridgeshire’s reputation as a hub for innovation and development.
- Financially secure and fit for the future – Ensuring services remain high-quality and cost-effective through openness, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making.
Residents’ feedback will shape the Corporate Action Plan for 2026/27, which outlines how these priorities will be turned into action through the Council’s next annual budget.
Cllr Bridget Smith, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said:
“The priorities agreed as part of our latest Corporate Plan are not just words on a page – they represent our commitment to action, partnership, and delivering real, positive change for everyone who lives and works here. We care deeply about ensuring residents have their say about what matters most to them, so we can make sure our plans reflect their needs and aspirations. Local government reorganisation remains a key topic as I continue to support plans for a new Unitary Council for Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire – but in the meantime, this consultation will ensure residents’ views are incorporated into the important processes of our planning and budget setting for the shorter term. Please do have your say.”
What Happens Next
The consultation is open until Sunday 16 November 2025. Once closed, feedback will be reviewed and used to inform the Council’s final Corporate Action Plan for 2026/27.
